"I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound and stab us. If the book we are reading doesn't wake us up with a blow on the head, what are we reading it for? ...we need the books that affect us like a disaster, that grieve us deeply, like the death of someone we loved more than ourselves, like being banished into forests far from everyone, like a suicide. A book must be the axe for the frozen sea inside us." -Kafka

Hi, everyone! I'm sorry it took me so long to join the blog (I was away and my hotel had terrible Internet). I don't know a whole lot about JSF's work, but I'm excited to delve in. Even my mom has begun to read his books! Although on one hand I'm sad that he only has a few books, on the other hand, I'm glad that our course will be more about quality than quantity. I can't wait to get reading, and I'm excited to share the Symposium experience with all of you! See you in September!
