"I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound and stab us. If the book we are reading doesn't wake us up with a blow on the head, what are we reading it for? ...we need the books that affect us like a disaster, that grieve us deeply, like the death of someone we loved more than ourselves, like being banished into forests far from everyone, like a suicide. A book must be the axe for the frozen sea inside us." -Kafka

Oh Borges...
I've read some Borges previously in Spanish class, and my opinion has not changed much after reading this story. Borges is weird. I haven't decided if I quite like it yet or not, but I think I'll see as we read more. One thing I really did appreciate, however, was the connections I was able to make with this reading. I made quite a few connections in my book with concepts we discussed during our Invisible Cities Harkness as well as some connections to other Borges work. As Becca previously said, Borges has some definite key themes, and I thought some of them definitely appeared in this text. I'm not sure how I feel about this story in particular, but I am ready and excited to read more!
